Where’s Tyler? The Holland Peanut Store

For over 100 years, the Fabiano family has run the Holland Peanut Store.  The store has almost every candy imaginable and is as close as you can get to a Willy Wonka experience.

The Peanut Store has been a staple in my life, just like Captain Sundae is.  Each trip downtown isn’t complete unless I step in the Peanut Store to smell the chocolate covered candies and get something sweet to eat.  Children will go nuts when they walk in, overwhelmed by the sheer amount of tasty deliciousness on the shelves.  As well as factory packaged candies like m&m’s, skittles, suckers, etc. they also have chocolate covered nuts, fruits, and more.  True to the name, they also have fresh roasted peanuts that are sure to hit the spot.

The Holland Peanut Store is open year round and is located at 46 East Eighth Street, in downtown Holland.

Where’s Tyler? The Outpost

The Outpost of Holland is a premier outdoor specialty store in downtown Holland.  They carry anything you would ever need to get out and enjoy the beautiful world we live in.  From men’s and women’s clothing to backpacks to kayaks.  The service is outstanding and everyone who works there truly loves the outdoors and they love to see others enjoying it.

The Outpost also carries Stand Up Paddleboards (SUPs).  They are the only store in the area that I’ve found that carries them.  A Stand Up Paddleboard is a long board, very similar to a surf board that you stand on and paddle around on the water, it looks like you are walking on the water.  It is a lot of fun to paddle down the many rivers and lakes during a nice, sunny day.  I’ve purchased 3 paddleboards from The Outpost and am very pleased with all of them.  I highly recommend SUPs for anyone looking for a new activity to pick up.  They run $600-$1500 a board but if this is too much to spend, Macatawa Boat House rents SUPs by the hour.

The Outpost is located downtown Holland at 25 East Eighth Street.
They are open:
Monday and Thursday: 10 – 8
Tues and Wed: 10 – 5:30
Fri: 10 – 9
Sat: 9:30 – 5:30

Where’s Tyler? Tello’s Bistro

Tello’s is a great restaurant located downtown South Haven.  The atmosphere is very romantic and inviting for a dinner for two or with friends.  Soft jazz music plays overhead while you enjoy the authentic Italian food, made with ingredients from local farmers.  There is an extensive wine list with many wines grown here in Michigan.

I’ve been to Tello’s a few times in the past few years, most recently after helping a friend move into his new place at Central Lofts in downtown South Haven.  We decided to go get dinner and chose Tello’s because of it’s nearby location and great food.  I was feeling adventurous and ordered rabbit for my meal. However, turned out that they were out of rabbit, so instead I ordered the rack of lamb.  The lamb was delicious and the minty pesto sauce on top was superb.  Service was great and the staff was very polite.  We didn’t have to wait for a table at all and the food came very quickly, which was nice.

Tello’s is located on Pheonix St. right next to Dyckman Park in downtown South Haven.  They are open Monday – Thursday 3 p.m. – 10 p.m. and Friday – Sunday 11:30 a.m. – 11 p.m.

Check out the website and make reservations at www.tellobistro.com.  If you are looking for a romantic dinner, or a casual dinner with friends, look no further than Tello’s!

Where’s Tyler? Tunnel Park

Tunnel Park is located just a few miles north of Holland State Park.  It is a popular 22-acre park with a unique tunnel through the dune.  As well as a great beach the park has a dune to climb and run down, a children’s playground, and places to picnic.  At the top of the dune is a nice area to sit and watch a sunset or watch the boats on Lake Michigan.

The last time I was at Tunnel Park was for a going away party for a friend who was headed to Lebanon.  The party was in the evening and we cooked hotdogs and hamburgers on the grills at the park.  Later some of us played football on the beach while the rest of the people sat and talked or threw Frisbees.  It was a nice, clear night and we had a great time relaxing at the park.

Tunnel Park is located at 66 Lakeshore Drive in Holland and is open April 1 through October 31 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.  Parking fees are in effect during the summer, although you can park across the street for free.
